I’ve been waiting for MCMC Fragrances to launch a candle line since Anne McClain moved into Dobbin Mews with us back in April of last year. Anne’s scents are so natural and lovely to be around (just like Anne herself) that even those who think they can’t do perfume are quickly converted.
Now, perfectly in sync with the season and cozy times inside, Anne has created four luxurious candles that mirror fragrances from her oils and eaus HUNTER, LOVE, and MAINE, and her beard oil DUDE NO.1.
HUNTER is warm and a bit spicy. Its the perfect lazy winter day companion with notes of organic bourbon vanilla, tobacco absolute, and balsam fir. I’m thinking of it as my Sunday afternoon candle: couch, book, sun dipping low outside my windows.
LOVE is unexpectedly green, smoky and citrusy all at once. Its a beautiful balance of clean (French basil and yuzu citrus) and warm but not sweet (temple wood and gunpowder) with a light hint of floral (magnolia).
When I breathe in MAINE, the first thing I think of is grapefruit. But on the next level its bright and fresh with local clary sage (Massachusetts), pine, sea air and beach plum rose: Maine in a nutshell.
I’m not a dude but I know I’m going to enjoy the notes of Virginia cedar wood, green coriander and pink peppercorn during any time of day at home. DUDE NO.1 smells natural and herbal which is totally my jam. Now if only every dude in Williamsburg wore the corresponding beard oil, the neighborhood would be all the more pleasant. For now I’ll burn the candle and I won’t hold my breath.
All of MCMC’s candles are hand-poured in Brooklyn with a blend of soy, vegetable and beeswax. They’re scented by fragrance and essential oils and will burn for 50 hours. My Christmas wish list begins here!
